The Madinah Blues

Makeshift markets like this are so widespread in Makkah and Madinah, and women get lost in them so frequently, that I may not be the first to think of tagging the women with GPS strips and track them in real time.

However this was not the case in this photo at Masjid al-Qiblatayn, where the sellers bivouacked just outside the women’s entrance – good for the ladies in the photo among whom are my mother, sister and niece.

Feminists would say men can be seen here too (though “gentlemen” would be appropriate but I don’t think feminists won’t choose the complement). Yes we were there, that’s because the women weren’t GPS tagged and we were too tried to lose them behind again.
